Roofing in Horn Lake

Horn Lake is the DeSoto County city closest to our office. From Winbrook Drive in Whitehaven it is a straight run south on Highway 51 or Interstate 55, about ten minutes to the neighborhoods off Goodman Road, Horn Lake Road, Nail Road and Tulane Road. That makes it, in practice, as local to us as parts of Memphis are, and it is one of the places we are most often working on any given week.

The housing here is a mix. The older streets near Highway 51 and around the city center have brick ranches from the 1960s and 1970s that are on their third roof, with the same history under the shingles we see on the Memphis side of the line: reused flashing, patched decking, attics that were never ventilated for the insulation added later. Further east and south, the subdivisions built from the 1990s through the 2000s are production housing on its first replacement cycle: entry-level shingle, minimum underlayment, code-minimum ventilation, and twenty years of Mid-South weather since. We handle both, and the approach to each is different.

Horn Lake is in Mississippi, with its own building codes, its own permit process through the city's Building department, and Mississippi's contractor regulations. We handle the Horn Lake permit as part of every job there and keep to the local requirements on the Mississippi side of the line the same way we do on the Tennessee side.

What we find on Horn Lake roofs

The most common Horn Lake job is a replacement that has been put off. Homeowners here are practical and often repair a roof several times before replacing it, and by the time we are called, the roof has granules in the gutters, tabs lifting on the south slope, and a series of tar patches around the pipe boots. Where a storm has added hail or wind damage on top of the wear, it is usually a claim, and we tell you honestly which parts are the storm and which are age. Roof replacement.

The second is wind. Horn Lake is flat and open toward the west, and straight-line wind off a spring storm lifts and creases shingle tabs on the windward slope of one house after another. On a sound roof that is a repair; on an old one it is the start of the replacement conversation. Storm damage repair.

The third is the water damage that follows: a stained ceiling that was painted over twice, wet insulation, and mold in the attic. We repair the roof and restore the interior under one claim. Water damage restoration.
